Default Is it a cluster problem

Just pick up a "M" plate 16v coupé and one thing a noticed in the first couple of day use is that one the rev counter seems very sluggish. At 70mph its only reading 2500 rpm and speedos spot on as checked against sat-nav. Second the fuel gauge all over the show. Put £20 qwid in then read less than started then went to were i would expect it then dropped by a quarter of a tank. All in 5 min`s. Now i have a cluster from my old B3 sport which was 91/92 would it hurt to try that one. Are they compatible or would it do damage. There slightly different in appearance but that's seams all. (no warning computer thingy) on either.

Fuel gauges are notoriously dodgy.

I put a B4 16v cluster in a B3 8v without a problem.
