Sad but imagine the damage a kid with an AK47 could do in a matter of seconds. News never really report exactly what happens. Cops in the US have microphones and dash cams so hopefully that sorts it out.

Reminds me of when that black chap got shot by armed police on the steps outside Wellington station about 20 years ago.
He also was holding a recreation gun and despite several requests by the armed boys in blue, he continued to hold on to it.
His family were up in arms (no pun intended) about the incident, but he had what looked like a gun, had opportunity to drop it and didn't and thus the police have to make a quick decision. It may not have been the right one, and it's only ever the wrong decisions which make the headlines.
