Hard frost first thing but it warmed up......although by all accounts the road conditions were poor.

No, that was the HC Viva. Mine was the HB with the OHC 2 litre slant four; I had a big valve head and GT2 camshaft that gave oodles of torque and the 4 - 2 - 1 exhaust manifold. Understeered like a pig until we did the upper front wishbone mod of moving the knuckle joint inboard by 3/8" to give a bit of negative camber. Another trick was to push the castor forward a bit by putting a few washers behind the rubber bush on the lower castor control arm. If it looked right it wasn't far off - long before the days of laser steering measurements!

P.S. The HB Brabham Viva had the 1159 pushrod engine with a modified head, cam and exhaust. My second GT was Jack Brabham Motors of Worcester Park demonstrator and the logbook was signed by the man himself. How I wish I still had it.....
