Ambient temperature display sensor fault?

Hi all,

I seem too have an intermittent fault with my ambient temp display module or sensor...........

When the temperature outside drops much below 8 or 9 degrees c, the display reads either -49f or E.

(Turning the car off and back on seems to reset it for a short time)

I'm hoping this is a faulty sensor........ Has anyone else experienced the same?
