Sadly my local Audi dealer was not forthcoming in assisting me with bits for this car, the word unfriendly springs to mind. Firstly they were unhappy I parked my mint 2002 XJ on their forecourt and then the young parts guy was huffing and puffing when I said I wanted bits for a 30 year old car. After all sorts of what I suspect were theatrical problems, he claimed he couldn’t help me. So I’ll try the dealer in the next town over next time. (Note I used the words young parts guy. I’m 30, almost 31 and this guy was 20 at best. He had that disinterested attitude that is so common in younger people and seemingly widely accepted by employers today.)

I’m doing the oil change later on today, along it’s some other bits, I’ll take photos and add them to the restoration thread. I’ll have a muse on the oil, lots of sensible suggestions here.

Regarding Hesketh Bear, he was the mascot of the Hesketh GP team in the 70s as portrayed in the film “Rush”. I was into Hesketh Racing a long time before that though, having found the bear in various old racing literature of my Dads when I was little. Learning about the team, James Hunt and their total disregard for the etiquette of F1, as well as their underdog status made them appeal to me.

I never got round to doing the oil change today, a few things cropped up which prevented me. Watch this space! It'll be done soon.

In my experience, that’s the attitude of all Audi dealers I’ve ever dealt with.

What I do is get the part number and ring the VW Dealer, they’ve always been most helpful and many times Audi have told me something is totally unavailable... a call to VW usually results in “I’m sorry we don’t have one, I can get one for Monday”.

Just make sure the part you ask for is common to VW and not Audi specific.
