Help - Idle Stabilisation valve, ABC Engine
Hello folks,
I've just ordered a new Idle Stabilisation Valve (part no. 078 133 455 D) for my 2.6 Cabriolet, ABC engine, year 2000. My question is, can I just bolt it in as received, connect the plug and of I go (with my fingers crossed in the hope that it will cure the 1100 - 1200 rpm Idle). The reason I ask is that Elsawin states: "After installation, ISV must be moved to basic position in 'Basic Settings' function". I do have VCDS (or a version of it) but am unsure how to do this and don't want to start messing without the knowledge. If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Hi, What is your idle problem, dose the engine idle speed jump about - 1000 to 1200 to 1000 to 1200 rpm and so on when warm?

Here's a few pages i cut out of Car Mechanics mag years ago that highlighted the usual problems with these engines. Last edited by vorsprung durch technik; 04-07-17 at 09:40 PM. |

It's an intermittent problem but getting more often than not. I have seen it drop quite low and back up a couple of times but most of the time it's at a steady 1200rpm. I've checked all that I can and I researched it a lot and I'm fairly confident it could be the ISV!

Thanks VDT, I've read those pages (numerous times!) having printed them out from a previous time you posted them. I checked out the Coolant Temp Sensor and it appears to be exactly as it should with the resistance dropping with the increase in temp.

Ha,someone taking notice. That's a good thing that you ruled that out then. I'm guessing the idle stabilizer valve is expensive from audi?

It was obsoleted by mainstream Audi - so I'm told - on 1st April this year. Tradition have it but they are only listing the part no. without the D on the end. Apparently my chassis no. requires the D. I've ordered a VDO item that corresponds to the correct part no. from a factors for a few pence under £75. They can be had for a lot less but you pays yer money....

The ISV was replaced - quick and easy to do, it's only two socket cap head screws and one electrical connector although a ball ended Allen key is very useful and do use a new O ring - but it needs to be put in the basic position using VCDS. This is also very quick and easy - as long as you have VCDS and the adaptor leads! Once I'd done this the problem was sorted and the car idled and drove superbly. The old Valve that came out had a date sticker on it and was only about three years old.
