Default A4 B5 fuel lines

Hi Guys
Doing a friend a favour on his 2.5 tdi and replacing the under car fuel lines as they are corroded.
The feed from the rear enters a splitter, then runs as two pipes to the front of the car before entering another splitter and going back to a single pipe. Just wondering why? Can I delete the two splitters and replace with a single pipe?

Cheers
Dave

Ok, I went ahead and replaced with a single 8mm pipe and it runs.
I haven't taken it for a drive yet as I have a list of other jobs to do first.

I do not know why I think this, but is it something to do with preventing a surge of fuel?

Not sure either. I can't see Audi doing it for no reason.
I asked my VAG trained mechanic friend and he said he had never seen them like that before? Even more confused.

Did a google, no match.
Audi Tradition list it without the A as fuel distributor.
