Any VCDS experts on here?

Looking for some help and advice, the car is my daily, 2004 A6 (C6) 2.4 V6 SE CVT.

Hey Mikes2, so sorry for not replying sooner, been seriously busy with work.

I'm only new to using VCDS so maybe you can be of help. The car in question is my daily, A6 C6 2.4 V6. I recently changed from a standard steering wheel to a multi function one. I also changed a faulty reverse sensor module for a version with the visual aid on the screen. I've followed the coding to a tee, but they still don't work. After doing an auto scan I have the following errors, including the two items I've changed. I've attached a picture of the auto scan, does it mean that the reverse module and the steering wheel functions are faulty? What's your thoughts on it?

You've got other faults as well in addition to the 2 changes.

Was there component protection on the modules you changed ?

The canbus error isn't a good sign. That means there's probably a module that the canbus doesn't recognise.

Where did you get your long codings from ? They'll be different for the steering wheel change and also if you've changed the parking sensor module to a different type.

It would be good to see the actual fault codes associated with each module.

I don't understand what you mean by 'component protection', can you explain that to me?

The canbus error could be related to the nav, I put in a nav unit in place of the cd changer after I bought the car 5 years ago, and I know that's a bit of a no no as it's in the wrong place in the system, but it has always worked in fairness. I plan to rectify that soon by putting the cd changer bask in and moving the nav to it's correct position.

As for the long codings I didn't change those, I used the short codes that appear on the pop up box when you go into the coding on the individual modules. Do I need to change the long codes too?

The fault codes, that's the detailed info beneath the list I showed you? I can take photos of those in the morning and put them up for you to look at.

As I said I'm new with VCDS so I do apologise if I've not done things correctly, despite all the videos and info I've located on the net I still have a lot to understand with it.

component protection is a feature put in by Audi to prevent some parts being moved to other cars without authorisation.

Basically the module will only work in the original car it was fitted to. If it gets fitted to a 2nd car, it's protected and won't function until the protection is removed. It's only certain ones that have it. It used to be dealer only but there are some specialists who can do it.

You might not be affected - just something to be aware of.

Some modules require the long coding to work. It's good practise to note down all codings on any modules you plan to remove, even if they are faulty. You should always check to see if a module has a long coding and not just a short coding.

Parking modules I'm pretty sure need a long coding (they certainly did in the A5s) - not sure about steering wheel modules. I'd need to do some online research on this.

Ah right, that is good to know, I wasn't aware of the component protection feature. Hopefully that doesn't apply here.

I must search out the long coding for both the affected modules, looks like a busy day researching tomorrow!
