I’ve an inbox stuffed full of (quite rightfully, from the customers viewpoint) snotty messages because the forum was dysfunctional.

I’m happy to tender my resignation as a moderator should you wish, but there’s a lot to fix before normality is resumed.... And replying to the moderator forum first might help stabilise things.

Just a thought, as it were...
I can say for sure that we are all in your debt for your contribution to keeping the forum going.

I'm aware of the ability to save posts, the trouble I have is that I don't always realise that I wanted to save a post until I can't find it again. Often it will be because I wasn't interested, but someone comes and asks the same question that was answered comprehensively only the previous week, and it would be nice to just point them back to that same answer.

It's not only this forum of course - lots of car forums are struggling with the same issues. In my various Vauxhall clubs we try to migrate people from the FB groups to the proper forum, but it's difficult. Sometimes it's just because it's more complex to post photos, sometimes people just like a bigger audience - it's easy to post on FB and then share it into multiple groups (sometimes too easy as it leads to me seeing the same thing over and over) compared to signing up for multiple forums and posting separately on all of them. We've found lots of previous owners of cars (and some with some lovely old photos of them) that we probably wouldn't have found without FB.

I'm sure one or two will be spitting feathers, good man!

I remember your leaving post of a few weeks back, made all the more poignant especially as it sounded like the current circumstances many of us
find ourselves in had come to bare for you. Sad also it generated only 4 responses, from Issimo Duffy, Geoff (black -Ur quattro) and myself.

Anyway Jake, great the car sold for good money and maybe another Poldark series could beckon for you. Jeez we could all do with some good news!

A choice. The forum administration can ensure a level of integrity of the individual at sign up, and their involvement and conduct (certainly in a forum like Classic Audi) generally determine their continued involvement, or not.

On Facebook, it appears that it should be more in line with people’s actual identities, but in fact is rather much more open to abuse, misdirection, and inaccuracy. The rules structure ensures that basic information is required, but the administration actually does not ensure any more integrity, and often much less, from what I can see.
Been ripped off on facebook a few times! Why anybody would rather use facebook where a stranger who could be anyone can take your money over using a forum where you at least have a history and reputation to keep up, is beyond me.

Facebook is a dumbster fire for car enthusiasts and it's all to easy to get burned.
