Alternator rebuild

Has anyone rebuilt theirs? I have my old 90amp one and expect it to be better than the new one I put on
I’m thinking strip down and replace voltage regulator-astheres no output at the moment-but any hints and tips gratefully accepted!

Don't Know much but I did the brush box on one a few years ago while still on the car, I think the voltage regulator is in the same box, brush box is fitted to the rear of the alternator with two screws, the pickups the brushes connect too did look very worn but it is still charging today, Sorry can't be any more helpful.

I bought a new refurbished one from an eBay seller (with good feedback) and have regretted it. Ended up bolting on the old voltage regulator as the new one was crap. I would take the original Bosch unit to a specialist to be rebuilt and it shouldn’t cost more than £60.

I got an exchange one from my local Bosch dealer. About £100 2 yrs ago. Like new.

Hmm. My old alternator wasn’t charging so I bought one off eBay. First they sent was wrong fitting. Second one fits, but is smaller than my original one.

Of course, there’s no markings on it to show what power it has and the seller was not helpful.
Now it’s on and working, I’m happy enough but would prefer to get my old one working. It’s not going to be broken windings, just a duff regulator.

I’ll try to test the one I have. Put an old style battery charger on it and see what output I get-what’s the worst that can happen?!
Edit. Not going to do this. Don’t think it would work at all.

I’d like to clean up the old one so have looked at Dave’s link. Couldn’t see pictures, but there’s not much to them so will give it a go when I’m feeling adventurous!
