Fuel Type - 10V
Interested in what Octane people use in their 10V rally cars (rep or otherwise).
Following logic (correct as necessary please).... The 10V combusion chamber is such that ideal ignition timing is not allowed with lower octane fuels because of detonation ( Right or Wrong?) On 91 Octane, ignition can be severly retarded resulting in high exhaust gas temperatures which could be why 10V exhaust valves are vunerable to dropping as they see a lot of heat ( does this make sense??) Apparently Audisport used a high octane "race fuel" in theit 10V's which meant that ideal timing without detonation could be achieved with resulting bigger power gains. (Is this correct?) What Octane is preferable, available and used???? 94?? Comments appreciated.... Cheers KB |

As higher, as possible, of course.
10vt with VEMS and LPG running on LPG puts out more torque because LPG has higher octane rating than 98 RON petrol and so ignition can be more advanced. And actually - even 2v NA engines benefits from 98 RON petrol - more torque and less fuel consumption. |

I had an original Audi Sport 10V rally car with Bosch Motronic injection and always ran it on AVGAS or commercial brand BP100.
