Default B2 horn failure

Evening All

As title, my GT's horn has stopped sounding.

I haven't looked at it at all yet, but would appreciate any thoughts on the most likely causes to check first.

Thx.

Fuses first, check the wiring at the horn itself to check if its still connected, possible relay faulty and finally check for grounds and powers at the connectors.
Brown wire is ground, iirc the horn 12volt power feed is a balck and yellow striped wire so youll need someone to press the horn push whilst you probe for volts at that wire.

I'd be for removing the horn push/steering wheel centre and earthing the wire on the column......if horn sounds then horn push faulty (unlikely?!).
If you earth the wire to a known good earth point and the horn sounds then suspect your steering column isn't earthed correctly.........there may be a small earth wire in the engine bay from steering column to body which may be your problem??
Using an ohmmeter you could check the wiring between horn push and horn.
You will have 2 wires at horn, one should be battery voltage with ign on(if no voltage, check fuse), other is earth via horn push.
If above checks out it would be worth removing horn and whilst connected to battery turn the adjustment screw on the horn body.....it might start to work?!
2 horns on your car or one.

I've no exact knowledge of B2 horn set-up but the above is "about right"!

Have you had your hearing checked lately?...

Just a thought...

Not as amusing as the last post... nor meant to be, but have you driven through any puddles recently? One of my 100s did that, stopped completely then started again when it dried out. sounded like a tortured duck for a few days before it came fully back to life. But they are right under the car in front of the wheel, dunno where they are on a GT!

My thoughts and 4v6's post contradict a bit, mine suggests the horn has a permanent live and is earthed at the horn push like the B3. His suggests the horn is permanently earthed and gets supply when horn push is pressed.....his also has wire colour codes....I'd go with his!

I believe there's a horn relay. Position 7, according to the big red Bentley book, and a fuse in position 3. So that would hint at switched live.
That said. The horns on my quattro died about 20 something years ago, and got replaced with a twin pack from somewhere.

My B2 horn failed a couple of years ago, when you push the steering wheel you should be able to hear the relay click, if this happens then check the wires to the horn, after 30 years mine were brittle and had come away inside the spade plug connector at the horn itself.
