7Zap question
OK, I've been using 7ZAP for a short time, and it is very helpful.
However, please can someone explain what the codes are in the "Title" section of each page? As an example, what does F85-D-900 001 - 902 500 signify, and how does it compare with F85-E-900 001-> ? I thought the numbers would relate to chassis number, but they do not-because the "D" and "E" in the title allow identical numbers to feature in two sections. eg, chassis No.900200 would sit in both of the two titles shown above. It is confusing me, and making it impossible for me to tell if I need (for example) part 857 000 111 A, or 857 000 111 F There must be a simple, obvious explanation that I am just not getting... Many thanks! Last edited by BackintheFold; 23-04-19 at 11:59 AM. |

To my understanding-
My quattro is serial number 901146. There’s only one to the best of my knowledge. It’s a quattro as opposed to a CQ or a coupe. My chassis type is 85, FA WAUzzz85zFA901146 The biggest issue (with the lower volume builds) you would normally have is when your chassis serial number coincides with a ‘break’ in the serial number sequences. Eg. Earlier models get a narrow shaft dizzy, and corresponding rotor arm. Later get a wider shaft. For instance, FA901145 might the point when a design change comes in. 901146 might get earlier or later parts. But the serial number should be sequential, and unique, and the entire vehicle identified by the significant part of the VIN, 85-F-90... At least, that’s how it always seemed to work for me.

Thanks-but that doesn't resolve the issue. Your chassis number fits in to both the examples I posted. The difference between the examples is the D or E after F85.
Do you know what that D or E means? This is a real problem for me in respect of my handbrake cables, and will surely crop up again. |

The letter corresponds to the letter within the chassis number which relates to a year. Each time the letter changed, the numbers started at 1 again.
All MB cars are J chassis or later which started in Aug 1987 but is classed as the 1988 model year. So basically A 80 B 81 C 82 D 83 E 84 F 85 G 86 H 87 J 88 K 89 L 90 M 91 Regards handbrake cables, yours is way after the change on E chassis cars so you need later ones

That's brilliant and makes perfect sense! Many thanks!!
I suspect the MB engined cars are always going to be the last revision for the 10v cars, as there weren't any more revisions after they were introduced (the RR of course is a different car!) so as urquattr085 says and you confirm, I need D and E suffixed cables. |

Just be careful with chassis break changes as the numbers are not always accurate. If your car is close to a change, you could have either.
I always had issues with my car as it was a very low numbered J chassis MB. There were several WR cars registered after mine with later chassis numbers
