Poly bushing sub frame on 90 2.3E???

Hi all,

This morning I had 2 new top mounts fitted to my car, great job, got them from Pete at quattro corner.

Had the rest of the bushings checked while the car was on the lift.

Only one with play, A subframe bushing, which is going to need attending to in the near future.

So I'm looking you guys opinions on poly bushing replacements vs regular.

In my opinion there is only 2 options that I would choose.

1. Genuine Audi rubber bushes

Or

2. Solid aluminium ones.

The poly version I have used on a few cars and they had more play in them after a shorter time period.

I fitted new poly rear axle bushes on my old 80 Avant a few years ago & within 6 months they was play & knocking. Never again, original spec ones for me.

Thanks for reply folks, hmmmm ok, had planed on doing poly wishbone bushes when they are due as they are something I have had to repeatedly change on these cars..... do they give the same bother?

pros and cons of solid alloy bushings seconded??

Yep John, actually only put it back on the road mid december, after some months tempary insanity ( atleast more than I will publically admit too) with a mondeo tddi estate, but the doctor has me on better medication now lol :P Mondeo = many miles per gallon very little smiles per gallon!

I have found using solid bushes, the overall stiffness of the car is improved. The steering is more positive and the gear change is more precise as the gearbox has less movement.

The downside is there is marginally more vibration felt through the car when at idle. But it is very slight.

With regards to wishbone bushes I will never use or fit for anyone else anything other than genuine OEM bushes as I have found these to be the best.

I got Meyle subframe bushes, top mounts, drop links and ball joints from all german parts for about £100.

I'm putting superflex bushes on the wishbones which worked out nearly the same!

So the general opinion is stick with genuine! Sounds like a plan as really couldn't be bothered with the extra nvh!
