Default Clutch on the floor?

Car is a Type 85 90q, the clutch biting point is riiiiight at the bottom of the pedal, I can't get into 1st at all and it really smashes into reverse...

I'm assuming the clutch is hydraulic? How do I bleed it if it is? Or where am I making adjustments otherwise? Or is it just likely to be a shagged worn clutch?

Ta!

Ok, I was being lazy I've had a bit of a read around and it sounds a fairly common thing.

So how the hell do you bleed a hydro clutch?

I really hope it's not the cylinder

Just had the clutch master & slave cylinders replaced on my Ur-q because of the symptoms you describe.

It is a cylinder and its exactly the same way you bleed brakes, Open nipple, Down to the floor - hold, tighten nipple, release pedal, open nipple - down to the floor, tighten nipple and so on until all air is out (Flow is constant without spurts or splatters!) Take the reservoir cap off and make sure the fluid is topped up at all times during the process.

Long term, change both the cylinder and the fluid so that you don't have to return to it for a while...

I don't know that car, but what I normally do is follow the hydraulic tube down to the gearbox bellhousing end, where you should find the cylinder. The nipple is normally right next to where the hydraulic tube attaches to the cylinder.

If you're really lucky a rubber dust seal on the end will help you find it.

Don't bother trying to see it - you can't. Just lie on the floor, find the flexible hydraulic hose, follow it to the gearbox and grope around. Usually takes the ring end of a 7mm combination spanner best, but there's not much room to swing it because the pipes get in the way. The true professional has a second spanner with the open end chopped off to shorten it about 15mm.

If you're lying in exactly the wrong position, the brake fluid will run into your eyes or mouth. A good wash will do for your eyes - I recommend Scrumpy Jack for the mouth.
