of course, special order colour and was requested by Pete and Ellen though perhaps black would have hidden the sneaky trips to the shed better

Ok Cannot do much but have sneaked into shed and taken the crank measurements. All are within 0.01mm of spec though some of the surfaces look far from smooth. Will get some pics tomorrow and let Tony decide if its acceptable. Sourced some pistons and OMG is nothing cheap for these engines.
Spoken to the guys at the engineering firm in Neston and as soon as this cast is off its out with the core plugs and oil squirters, then off to them for a ultrasonic chemical clean and get the ridge taken off at top of bores. Be interesting to see the difference...
Just need some info on what honing pattern for recommended type of rings etc.

OK, things are going to take even longer.. looking at the crank under a magnifying glass and it seems to me to be bordering on a re-grind. This being the case I may well bury the hatchet and save for another 4-5 months and get a 92.8mm crank for it and do a 2480cc conversion. what can I say, do it once do it OTT

Had Tony give his view on the crank and it looks like either a re-grind or a replacement defo needed. As I am not a fan of regrinds on cranks (especially ones that are going to handle 420bhp) I am therefore now looking for a replacement. Either a 86.4 or 92.8mm .If anyone has one in 'perfect' condition, please let me know
Cannot purchase pistons or anything until this issue resolved....

Decided after a whole day in the garden yesterday to spend some time on the block today.
Job 1 core plug removal. What a b'stard of a job, ended up drilling an 8.5mm hole on one side tapping it and attaching some unistrut to the bolt and using medium weight copper hammer blows as didn't want to strip the thread in the core plug, 1 took 10 secs but most took a minute or more before they gave up their grip on the block. Cleaned up the mounting surfaces and decided to do an initial clean of the outer surface of the block. Just need some decent gunk type engine cleaner/degreaser. Then it's start to save up & collect all the parts, cannot start getting the bores sorted until I have the pistons and cannot order the bearings until I have a crank, so as title, the slow upgrade continues

Default Oil squirters removed

Another job completed the other day was to remove the oil squirters. Now need to get some cleaner and use my departed father in laws brushes he normally used for cleaning the shotgun to clean the oilways etc

Not much happened as presently unable to get at the block due to the priority of getting some old alloys refurbed so I can then get the 215/50 Nokian Winter tyres fitted. Was going to mask off the bald summer tyres but realised there was no point so they have got painted too. Painted them a dark silver as they usually end up virtually black in minutes anyway once the salt starts being put down...
