Do you actually talk to someone or its literally on line. God i have trouble using my mobile for anything much more than a phone never mind complete complicated manouvers on a slow 3g connection. I think i will just ring DVLA and ask unless you can walk me through it. This new system is such a pain in the backside.

Post Office route still works ok from recent experience, BUT the old idea of renewing tax ( assuming you are on a SORN ) the night before for the following month no longer works. If you try and renew the car tax the last day of the month at 5 pm in your Post Office, you will still only be able to get tax from 30 days earlier. i.e. Best to wait until the following morning.
As many here are enthusing about, do it on line....ok if you have the techno ability AND a good wi-fi link!

Just to add some confusion, what would you do if you are an Irish buyer? Last time I bought a car in uk it was mot'd but sorn. I couldn't tax it as I don't live in the uk. I had no problem with insurance but had to drive 6 hrs to the ferry with no tax. All was ok but I'm still not sure what I could have done differently or what would have happened if the cops stopped me?
