Today's questions...
How much oil, and what grade, to do an oil change on a 80 b4 2.0e petrol?
Would a saloon 80 b4 front doors have lower trim the same as avant? Final one.... on etka what would the thermostat be called? Coolant temp switch or something like that? And where is it on my 2.0e? Cheers 👍 |

Just buy 5 litres of 10w 40 synthetic, you'll have a little bit left over. Something like Shell Helix for a good quality medium priced very good value oil. Fuch titan pro S if your feeling the love.
Door trims at the bottom are the same excluding the RS2 and S2 of course, they're different. Thermostat, isn't a temp switch it's just a thermostat. If your looking for a part number look for the part that looks like a thermostat. |

Coolant regulator, spot on, cheers.
I'd had a look at that diagram Mark, and i was thinking it was no.9, so glad you've confirmed this. On the door cards side of things, that's good news too. saloon being the same as avant for the lower door trim. I'll pick up 5lts of oil and filter and get an oil change done. do i go fully synthetic or semi? 5w40 Last edited by Gmac; 11-01-17 at 11:23 AM. |

The 'what oil should I use' debate has been running for years and I'm sure will continue to do so. Personally, I've used nothing but fully synthetic since the advent of Mobil One around the early nineties because it stays in grade. Again, personally, I prefer nothing higher than 5 for the first figure (the lower the first figure, the thinner the oil when its cold) and nothing lower than 40 for the second figure (the higher the second figure, the less thin it is when hot). I use Mobil One 0W/40 but also think Quantum Platinum 5W/40 is a decent oil at a reasonable price from TPS parts club. There are plenty of good oils out there - you pays your money........

The 3.0litre V6 (ASN) in the C5 A6 and the 2.6 V6 (ABC) in the Cabriolet. And everything else I've owned since the early nineties including two 2.0S Capri's. Swear by the stuff (and I do get it for a very good price!)

I put Mobile One 0w 40 in the Cortina Mk5 in 87 and hated the stuff. It made the 2.0 pinto engine sound course/rough.Cost a fortune i remember. Was only in there a day or so,i hated it, before i dropped it out and probably refilled with Castrol GTX 20w 50 to restore it's normal smoothness.

I must admit, when I read 0w40 I winced slightly. It's a bit thin, certainly for the B2's/Ur and B4 20vT 5 pots... But if it works for you, fair play...
