Mr Brown deciding to base taxation upon emissions was a poor decision. Anyone could see that there would be more zero rated cars sold, hence a drop in revenue was inevitable. Furthermore, there are rumblings that they realize they dropped a clanger by encouraging us to buy Diesels. Yes, a little less CO2, but a lot more carcinogens. More expert advice. |

That's what I was saying, it's not so much a case of covering government road maintenance costs or anything, the tax regime has been turned into a psychological tool to manipulate vehicle purchase behaviour/choice of vehicle. Just like the scrappacge scheme, it raises FARRRR more revenue via VAT on new sales than they are losing in revenue from changing the tax regime. It's a fekn scam.

Your 100% correct there. It's a disgrace what they've done! What happens if you don't get your reminder from the DVLA? ,........spare a thought here.........every one ...... the postal system now it's privatised is getting worse,we get far too much mail delivered here thats not ours so ours must be going astray too. Everyone should make sure you write down on your calendar or diary when the tax runs out on each of your cars otherwise they will get you if you forget. It seams Government has turned highwayman, just waiting to pounce on unsuspecting innocents out there.

I also read recently that since the tax disc 'stopped' the revenue has fallen significantly i.e. there are a lot less untaxed vehicles running around !
