Default Central Locking

After a couple of false starts with items from eBay, I fitted a replacement central locking pump today.

Original pump part No. 4A0862257A
Replacement part No. 4A0862257C

Same electrical connections for both.

Vacuume pipes have already been tested and passed as functional without leaks.

Anyway, new pump fitted and it won't operate the locks from the driver's side. The door just locks and unlocks without activating the others. The central locking does work properly when using the key or button on the passenger side. This will also lock and unlock the driver's door.

Question is: Is there an electric switch connected to the system behind the door card? Or should the movement of the door lock closing the vacuume pump in the door do the job on its own?

Item 4. It should have a 3pin(?) plug. Both doors. Don't be too surprised if you find that someone has tried to tap into it for an alarm system, or fitted a non switched one from another part of the car, or other vehicle completely, or simply not reconnected it properly after some repairs.

Do you know how to do a continuity test? You should be able to identify the correct pins on the plug to the vacuum pump.

(All of the above based on my knowledge gleaned from working on other models, so don't shoot me if I'm off on a tangent)

Cheers Mark.

I removed both of the door cards and swapped over the lock actuator pump from the (working) passenger side. Still nothing.

Checked the loom, found a break in the wire somewhere between the door and the central locking pump. Couldn't pin point where the break was so jointed in a new wire at either end.

An hour of stripping out half of the car's trim and wrapping the loom, and new wire in tape the whole way, and the problem is sorted.

Now I've got fully functioning central locking for the first time since buying the car

for breaks in wiring, the passage from door to shell proves popular. Chafing, that sort of thing.
