Default Transponder problem... need help

Hi Guys,
I'm knee deep in sh#t... I installed remote key on my 80 cab model 2000 tdi. I used the new keyfob without transponder a few times just to put power on system to open the roof, not to start the car... since then a warning light was blinking on dash with car and key picto... now I put the transponders in new keyfobs but car won't start... I've put transponders back in OEM keys but no result engine turns over... kicks in but immediately cuts off... picto still blinking on dash need help...

As you probably suspect, it's like it isn't now recognising the transponder chip..........maybe the control unit is unsynchronised with the "reader" at the column??
Maybe disconnecting the battery for a few minutes might set things in line so to speak?
Shouldn't make it any worse ! Worth a try maybe.

Maybe just leaving the ignition ON for 15 minutes or so might resynchronise it ??

That's me out of ideas !.........other than maybe taking out the transponder and holding it in different positions around the ign barrel area........but if it was reading it before in the old fob then I doubt this will work.
