Well, engine almost all back together, whilst its been in bits I have also taken the opportunity to replace a few items that were 'temporary' 5 years ago when the engine went in:

This heat shield is well past its use by date, patched up last time but will be getting replaced.

Old botch up and below new nomex oil resist hose. Just changed in time as the old rubber had gone all squishy.

As new housing larger it puts it close to the chassis and wiring so ordered some heat wrap to protectit and added additional insulation to the heatshield as this could under certain situations be glowing red

Taxed the cq again last night once I'd recovered from a terrible train journey back from London. Cannot go too mad until the remap but first impressions with the new turbo.

1) The WOT surge has gone
2) Boost now comes in later by 300ish rpm so now boosts from about 3200rpm and comes in more progressively so no sudden rush of power as I used to get at 3000rpm.
3) The turbo 'whistles' more, not sure if its a boost leak but that will have to wait until the visit to Automark.
4) Don't get the full potential until your almost on WOT, So driving it on half throttle and below 3000rpm is uneventful

Now have 2 weeks to wait until it gets fettled

I have been limited on my engine by the MAF that is maxing out and limiting the power and torque this modified turbo can make, so have had a larger MAF made and just need for the lockdown to end so I can get upto Automark to get this larger one matched to the engine and see what its capable of

Have at last been able to get to Automark for the re-map with the new turbo. He found several boost leaks that we fixed, tested the compression that he said was high at 198psi ( I only reduced compression from 9.3:1 to 9:1 with the piston change) and the total seal 2nd rings I have fitted stop any gases leaking past the pistons, but its consistent across all cylinders, then fitted the 7A fuel pressure regulator to increase fuel pressure by 1/2 bar to ensure enough fuelling. Fitted the larger MAF and went out for some test runs.
Result is a safe max of 28psi boost (normally run at 26psi using switch on the dash can select higher value when needed ) and to keep engine safe in hot weather he backed off the ignition slightly, and some test runs revealed 30-50 in 2nd is around 0.8 secs. 70-90 mph in 5th is 2.6 secs. Plenty fast enough for me for a road car and touch wood stays reliable for many years to come (hope that's not jinxed it)
Not sure of power but Mark reckons around 450bhp and around 350-380Lb/ft torque at a guess.

That sounds good power . Has it been on a dyno yet? and what clutch are you using? is it up to the job of almost 400lb/ft of torque ?
