Question small front mounted radiator coupe cq

Hi im after a good condition smaller radiator that was added on certain Audis like my b3 coupe Quattro its mounted behind the grill and is a slave to the large radiator . I believe they were only fitted in certain circumstances like towing or hot areas ? Might be wrong though any advice on this is welcome too such as do I need it? Or can I get by with the large one and its cooling fan ..... Odd design

It can do without the smaller radiator in our climate.

I thought so, why did they fit them ? It just seems strange. There's no sign of it having towed or anything ....

S2s had the auxiliary radiator there. The s2 rad is pretty much the same as other 5pot radiators. Most of the s2 guys do away with them and just blank the hose off.

"Certain circumstances" applies to 10v cars, for 20v cars it was installed by default. Aux rad of 20vt is noticeably longer than 20v NA.

As for need - I've been told that 20v can do without it while 20vt might overheat when used hardly on track

Well its only the 10v so not a huge performer and seeing as the weather seems to be getting colder and colder in the UK I think blanking it off and just using the main radiator is the way to go . Thanks for the advice guys

Im runing the single rad with a 5pot kv engine with afew mods.

However, I have fitted a ajustable thermostat for the fan so I can get the fan to cut in at 85deg not 95 which is a bit close to boiling the coolant. If the fan doesn't cut in at 95-100deg the temp will quickly rise usualy in slow traffic going up a hill in the summer.

with the age of the thermostat and fan switch it might pay to renew or update.
