Not Audi related but an aircraft some on here have shown an interest in.

Today and tomorrow are the B/pool airshow days , PA474 flew over low and i could see the results of the spruce up it was given, i googled it just to check what i thought i had seen.
Thumper is no more, City of Lincoln now wears a Kangaroo in wellingtons playing the bagpipes, she also has different aircraft codes on each side, the Kangaroo is in tribute to the mixed countries of origin of that bombers crew, Australia, Scotland, and Wales.

Wish i could put a photo on but can't, maybe somebody else who has one of the new livery could.

Can't post you a photo Bruce but saw (and heard!) the old warhorse, on her way home, over my Mums near Chorley this afternoon

Wellington boots were at first made of leather. However in 1852 Hiram Hutchinson met Charles Goodyear, who had just invented the vulcanisation process for natural rubber. While Goodyear decided to manufacture tyres, Hutchinson bought the patent to manufacture footwear and moved to France to establish À l'Aigle ("to the Eagle") in 1853, to honour his home country. Today the company is simply called Aigle. In a country where 95% of the population were working on fields with wooden clogs as they had been for generations, the introduction of the wholly waterproof, Wellington-type rubber boot became an instant success: farmers would be able to come back home with clean, dry feet.

There is a long write-up about her repaint for this seaon in the latest (delayed) edition of the magazine of Lincolnshire's Lancaster Association written by Mr C. Pope, the guy who oversaw the work. The amount of research he did to ensure the correct lettering positioning borders on the obsessive but there are many who would criticise it if it proved to be incorrect..... All power to the chap's elbow - I say.

The starboard side is painted to represent the 50 Squadron aircraft VN-T flown by F.O. Douglas Millikin, the grandfather of the current BBMF O/C Sq. Ldr. Andy Millikin. The registration number PA474 must remain the same because she is still on charge as a RAF aircraft.

The port side is painted to represent W5005 / AR-L, an aircraft of 460 Squadron RAAF and as Sinbin says, the nose-art represents the nationalities of the crew that mainly operated that aircraft.

The major servicing of PA474 was carried out at Duxford by John Romain's Aircraft Restoration Company and overran by some months, partly as a result of some of the paint being supplied to the wrong shade when applied. JR has a wonderful team of engineers working at Duxford, many of whom are actually volunteers who do it for the love of old aircraft. There is a photo in the aforesaid magazine of the 29 astounding people who worked on her at Duxford posing on the grass in front of the old girl.
