2.6 V6 ABC Engine ecu's

Hi guys. I'm getting started on an auto to manual conversion on my 80 and I'm getting conflicting info on ecu's. Some saying I need the manual ecu and wiring loom, others saying I don't need to change anything other than small changes to the parking position wiring so I can start the car and remove the key. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Well, when looking at the catalogue, while 2.5 TDI uses different ECUs for MT and AT, 2.6 doesn't - so likely there should be some coding wire/s for that, as the engine still needs different tuning for MT or AT.
