boot lifters

Hi,
i thought that B2 coupe and 80 shared the same boot lifters,but i don`t think that this is the case. I bought a pair of lifters from a member on here they were for a coupe,but i own an 80.I thought they would fit but yesterday i tried changing them and they are different.
The ones on my 80 are snap on type,the ball is fixed to the car,whereas the ones from the coupe have their own ball already in the socket . Does anyone know if there is a way around this? If not,then i will have a pair of b2 coupe boot struts for sale.
