Exclamation B3/B4 prices. The Debate

OK I'm going to stick my neck out here and place out there for debate what I personally think B3 and B4s are worth in the real world.
These values are for private sale condition 1 cars i.e 'low' mileage, VGC with a long MOT

B3 low spec 1.8s and B4 1.6/2.0 £1.5k
B3 better spec 1.8 B4 Tdi and 2.0E £1.75k
2.0E 16v £2k
2.3E/2.6 £2.25k
2.3E 20v/2.8 £2.5K

Add £250 to above prices for Coupe/Avant and £500 for Quattro

Look at "sold listings" on ebay or try sticking one for sale (assuming you own one of the above) and see what happens. That should give you an idea.

Also take note of the ones for sale and how long they sit around versus asking price. I fear the above prices might be wishful thinking.

But you are right, they might be worth that to the right person, at the right time, with cash on the hip, depending on where you live, and how lucky you are, and which way the wind is blowing etc etc.

I'd pay 3k for a mint 16v quattro B3.

£1K for a mint base model B3

and £500 for any B4, less for a coupe, I just don't like them.

I bought that 2.8q B4 a couple of years ago for £800, nicked the wheels off it and got £1500 for it, but it wasn't easy to sell, nobody wanted it.

Beats the fifty quid I was offered when SWMBO bought her new car seven years ago! I knew it was an insult.

I've just spent the thick end of £2,000 on the old girl to get her ready for holiday - money very well spent IMHO.

Absolutely! And this needs to be taken into account when valuing a car.

I would go along with that, but sometimes we think something is worth more than it is for some reason until reality kicks in.

I agree with that in principal Mark but it is very rare you recoup your costs. In three years of ownership I reckon I've spent a good £2.5+k on mine, bringing it up to my standards, but it's probably only added about £750 in value to the car on top of the original purchase price. I suppose you could also add onto that about £250 or so in prevented depreciation
It sure does help make a car more saleable though

I don't think you are far off the mark with those suggestions at all Carl and these are higher than was the case a few years ago which is good news for us and fellow owners.

I'd agree with that, there are many factors which can make a car more desirable for the buyer.

In a way, I'm glad there's not more stuff on my doorstep !!
