2.2 KU starting issue
FIXED HELP (please)
So rebuilt the head and all was well. Started to develop a 'flat' spot in the rev's and a splutter as though a miss fire, then wont start. Thus far. 1/ I have a spark. 2/ will run on wd40 3/fuel pump primes 4/fuel at metering head. I thought the metering head might have been gummed up so removed piston from it (seemed ok). Fuel squirts out at meter head to injector lines. Put air through the injector and it worked Removed an injector, cranked engine and raised metering head and nothing in the jam jar zero fuel (without injector fitted I get a dripple)????? Raise the metering head 'plate' and resistance up, release and it just drops down. So what am I doing wrong? Still the piston in the metering head at fault? Would the potentiometer cause a non start if faulty? Any help ideas appreciated. Last edited by simons2; 22-06-17 at 11:01 AM. Reason: Fixed |

What about the fuel warm up regulator? I have had a lot of starting troubles with that but that is only with my KK. The KU has been fine so far. Sorry not to be of any help.

Thanks for the reply Arch-80.
I wondered that but it was a mild day yesterday so not critical IMO to it starting plus it just works on cold start so I presumed it would just run rough until warm. Anyone had experience of the 'fuel pressure accumulator' breaking????? Running symptoms??? Starting to think this could be my issue based upon research thus far. |

I believe it doesn't matter, fuel still passes through it and if it is blocked or full of crap. It's an easy one to look at anyway and rule out of the starting issue your having. It was just one of my issues on a different engine. Out of interest do you hear a scraping sound of metal on start ups?

As a quick check remove the fuel pump relay and bridge the terminals so the pump runs continuously. Pull an injector out and place in a jar, lift the flap under the rubber dome a little and fuel should spray from the injector - lifting it further should deliver more fuel.

Check all the air and vacuum pipes over and over again. Is all connected and tight?

Arch-80....Thanks for compiling those altogether. Read the second one but not the other two.
Sandro.....Will do. I decided to remove the fuel accumulator as the plugs are/were black and that's a sign of a knackered unit. The metal fuel lines were rusted beyond fixing so I removed them and I'm replacing with copper. I might remove the fuel tank and 'flush out'. I'll do all this check the above and report back. Thanks thus far chaps for your help. |
