Question Trying to finish my Dads extention on the barn. Advice needed.

Hi all,

My Dad passed away a year ago suddenly from a heart attack on the 10th of September 2016

He was in the middle of replacing the wooden structure on the end of the barn, and as a result, only the outside wooden frame is complete.

I'd very much like to finish the project myself..

I've been looking for membranes to place under a sloped corrugated tin/metal steel roof for it...

Would this be okay to use do you think?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Gaz, sorry about your father, lost my own father over 10 years ago, the first year was the hardest for me but the loss dose get easier with time. I run my own design company using computer based Autocad to constructed drawings for planning and building warrant applications, the product you have listed dose indicate in the specification "drip-off" this is where if you have a steel roof as you have it may be possible to have water dripping off the under side of the steel roof when the air temperature is colder on the outside than the inside, this is where warmer air below the steel roof condenses on the cold under side of the steel roof and produces drips of water (drip-off) the technical term is Dewpoint (where the air can no longer hold water), the white dotted line on the product indicates the minimum overlap required, always double up product the product at ridges and valleys, if you are fitting gutters to the lower external edges of the roof and make sure you leave any roof covering product long enough to reach the gutter, remember to brace the roof trusses, always start fitting any roof covering from the bottom, this dose create problems for the installer to see footing area on roof, you may have to install horizontal timber battens (25mm x 38mm) called tile batten, the recommended maximum centers is 345mm, use 75mm (3") galvanized round wire nails, any other questions just post, and as normal we like photos, before and after.

You local authority will tell you how much permitted development your aloud given the original footprint of your house. Alway check with them first,......... then proceed!

As for carports,......easy as pie me old china just do a little research on how to build loads all over the net and build yourself if your feeling confident.

What you want is one of these.

Sorry to hear of your dads passinglyt's never easy and as i've been there too it's not easy but gets better with time.Depends how close you were.

As for the roofing membrane when i cut a whole new roof for my house i used Klober Perma Forte, which is windproof watertight and breathable form underneath allowing moister out but not in. Have a gander at this it explains the pitfalls of installation that most roofers don't understand and install it wrong. That's the reason why i did my own as with every aspect of building work it's not rocket science but is all about the detail
