Having recently picked up the tab for restoring our long ownership, roadworthy and good original condition example I would suggest any such delusional thoughts of a quick, cheap fix are exactly that... Delusional.
From a basic maths point of view, think purchase price +£20k. If you’re half decent with a spanner you can trim a bit off, if you’re expert with a welder you can trim a lot off but it has to be OEM good to keep the value.
If you can rebuild the drivetrain as well... It’s the car for you.........

I am yes, none of the work phases me at all.

Got an 85 Ur already which has been through the process, and also a 91 S2 which is part way through

Its the thought of a car with some heritage being neglected.

Hmmm. I've probably spent getting on for that on my (identical) MB already and I've not even tackled the bodywork yet.

I am good friend with the person who use to work with PP and would have worked with him on that car at some point. I've also been in that car some years ago and it was nice, but as I said, that was probably around 10 years ago. I'd say go for it.


PS I've just bought two S2's. A 3B and an ABY, both needing quite a bit of work....why do we do it?!

Ah, don’t be disheartened, ours had the engine rebuilt in 2011 (only probably 10k miles ago) which I’ve not included or several other drivetrain bills..

Just drop your pants and accept it’s going to hurt.
