Or even worse, buy an allroad, you'll never know what height the bloody thing will be from one moment to the next never mind alignment. You'll be so busy replacing air springs you'll never have time to even look at the wheels or arches.

Thinking about it! Having said that, 80 bangernomic just went through an mot, one side light, one flexi brake hose, and a bit of putty on the exhaust. Decided to spoil it, bought a new full exhaust system for it, from Poland. £70! Delivered! In four days! With all the rubbers and clamps! Can't beat a B3. Peanuts!

I wouldn't worry about 8mm. My motorbikes wheels are offset by more than that (single disc front) and it handles fine.

I've fitted an adjustable panhard rod to the rear of my B2 80.

1985 Type 81 2 door 2.8 V6
1983 Golf GTI track weapon
1977 Scirocco G60
1968 Sand Rail
2006 A4 2.0 TDI Avant = DEAD due to oil pump failure.. then alive.. then DEAD due to cam belt tensioner failure! and ALIVE again!!!

Handling? nothing. The stock rear suspension on the B2 with the spring plate trailing arms etc.. is so 'flexible' that adjusting the rod makes no real difference.

It was more because a tyre was rubbing the arch on one side and not the other.
