Good news...
grabbed my neighbour (an ex-mechanic), and between us we've managed to locate a black pin 'under' the throttle valve adapter on the inner straight area of the silver block thingy close to where it meets the bendy thing; little wonder that I couldnt find/see/feel another L connector grommet, seems that's missing too!

So aside from now needing to source an L connector grommet and a length of approx' 8" X 3mm diameter breather pipe, well mystery solved; who needs Toyah Wilcox when you've got CA eh? - thanks for the help guys!

but only due to him not been able to walk very far up until a few days ago, and a slight reluctance on his part to even come out of his flat, but he did come out, and he also seemed rather pleased with himself for being able to walk that far and back again unaided; one good turn and all that!
