Default Sunroof not working properly

My b4's sunroof tilts but doesn't slide... not looked at it yet but what is likely to be the cause and any pointers or tips as to how to fix it?

the search function didn't throw up anything really.

TIA

A damned good clean up of everything, including the weather seal, worked on one of my V8s. The seal itself was nigh on rigid, and binding up on the perimeter as the motor tried to drop the panel ready to slide back. Proven by selecting slide and giving the roof a helping hand (i.e. A damned good thump downwards)

This is a B4 problem par excellence! They all suffer this if kept outside.Mine went in the silver one, around 2004 at only 10 years old. It's all down to just a lack of mainteneance. So when i bought my current 80 avant 7 years ago,it had been garaged all it's life, i make damn sure i keep it clean and lubricated.

you can slide it manually using the small tool which should be attached to the plastic housing

He's got a point!
Inside the plastic bezel/housing over the motor, there should be a crank which is inserted into the gear. It's a longish Allen key, 5 or 6mm hex, maybe.
Once the roof is retracted, you should have access to everything to clean it all.

Looks to be 37 from this picture... I take it it'll be obvious where I insert it?

There is a large gear as part of the motor, item 32. There will be a hex broach (bore) in the drive shaft that drives the gear.
