Default Tony Pond Ten Years Past.

Its ten years this month since Tony Pond lost his fight for life, found a film of him in the early Metro days courtesy of 6R4.net. I remember watching this on TV as well!!

I watched a video last week of him in a Rover 3500 SD1 on The Manx, with lanes a fraction wider than the car; boy could he peddle a car.
Pity he never went to Lancia, Peugeot or Audi at the height of GrpB, might have had another Rnglish world champ.

I remember him being interviewed at the Autosport show or Classic Car show one year and he was talking about how the governing body were trying to sell Group A after the demise of B. He was complaining that it was all very well them enthusing that these new cars would still be around 300+bhp, the problem was, that in Group A, they would come out of the engine one at a time!

Probably the best British Rally driver of all time that didn't quite make the big time.

Wonderful memories.

We were gifted round this neck of the woods back then with the Mintex susequently National Breakdown and RAC always having stages nearby and my Dad always took me to see them.

I remember the Esholt water works stage near Bradford ( where they originally filmed Emmerdale Farm) there were always two people we wanted to see Tony Pond and Roger Clark, both very sadly gone too soon.
