No a KV, but they did do a 20V 7A 2.5 conversion too. That was rated at 200bhp and similar torque but at higher revs than KV 2.5

The KV with Schrick and various other modifications is a harsh old beast that needs driving hard, and 200bhp, whilst good, isn't a nose bleed in modern traffic. I would like to see a full fat KV TSR/GTI Engineering type motor with bang up to date electronic fuel control and ignition just to see exactly what could come from a n/a 10v 5pot

Quiet, they ain't...

That is a good point, the original conversion was done with the affordable technology of the day.

If you were to build a modern one a stand alone ECU could run EFI and coil on plug. It would be nice to ditch CIS. Imagine what it would sound like on throttle bodies!

Simons do you want to stay CIS? Going to another CIS setup could give more fuel adjust ability and electronic ignition control, if you wanted to retain original looks.

Aelred built a 2.5 10v with 202 bhp

Quote:
CR to 11.5:1, I installed Lumenition ecu (cheap and cheerful) to be able to map the ignition and used a 6 electronic injector mapped to control the fuel pressure on the KJectronic, big valve head with the original cam.
Original I and Ex manifolds. it had a larger bore exhaust. With this set up on the engine dyno it had 202BP and identical torque figures. And still very drivable due to the extra cc's

From the GTI website

The conversion comprises of:
Chrome molybdenum steel crankshaft 94.5 mm stroke
Alloy autothermic pistons
Cylinder block bored and honed to 82.5 mm bore
Gasflowed cylinder head
41mm inlet valves
35mm exhaust valves
Special large cast iron valve seats
Modified distributor
Fitted oil cooler with thermostat
Baffled sump
Price £2500 (1985)
Technical Data:
167 bhp at 5,500 rpm (std 136 bhp at 5,800rpm)
155 lbs/ft at 4,500 rpm (std 136 lbs/ft at 3,500 rpm)
0-60 mph 7.5 secs
max. speed 130 mph

From the TSR website

2.6l 5cyl short engine (2226cc exchange)
Based on the 2226cc block, these units are fitted with a longer stroke crankshaft and bored to 82.5/83mm for a massive 2.6ltrs. To take advantage of this huge capacity we recommend the fitting of our Pack 'C' head in which form the engine will produce up to 185bhp.

TSR PACK C 10V
To release the full potential of the 5 cylinder engine, these heads are re-engineered to accept the same 40mm/35mm valve specification as used in the Pack C Golf heads.
With similar attention given to porting and gasflowing these engines will easily give 170bhp when fitted with an appropriate camshaft. These power figures are similar to Quattro Turbo engines but without the turbo complications.

Cam shaft
Audi/VW 10v 2.2/2.3 ltr, Shrick, 276 degree, 11.5mm lift, Fast Road

What was the load input for K star?

lol, yep, thank you, I've now spotted the mistake...

Maybe a bit optimistic...

I was aiming at 2500cc making 250bhp... But I can't be asked to place a braincell in that general direction now....

Reading with great interest here as I would like to get some more low down torque out of the KV engine, but not al all cost
