1989 Audi 80 S - needs repair
1989 Audi 80 S 1.8 petrol (with carburetor), manual gearbox, manual choke.
It is currently not running. I think (but have not investigated) that it is the ignition barrel - which would be fixable, but I no longer have the time or inclination. Scrap dealers have offered £200 (pre haggling). But I would rather someone took it to fix as it is an old friend I've had for 15 years and I would be sorry to see it go for scrap. Given its age, it is worn. It has had new HT leads recently, but it could do with new spark plugs, distributor cap & rotor arm. Battery is only a couple of years old. The wires are frayed where they go into the boot lid (aren't they always!) and the boot lid catches slightly when it opens and needs slamming firmly to lock. But it was running OK. MOT expires July; Tax runs out end April. If I'm wasting my time trying to sell it for repair, please let me know and I'll phone the scrapyard. |

Decision time
I've only got a couple more days to make a decision. If anyone is interested, please shout now otherwise it is off for scrap. If you are interested, please bear in mind that you will need some way of transporting it to its new home as it can't be driven (or started) until the ignition is fixed.
Thanks |

It was worth a try. But I'll be phoning the scrapyard tomorrow so this sale is now closed.

its a damned shame is what it is.
cant you fix the ignition barrel and sell it? most likely its not being able to see and hear it running, plus the cost of transporting a non running car that puts people off. rather than being able to turn up with trade plates........ @200 i think id buy it if it was running! |

I know. I'm sorry to see it end this way too. But I'm lucky if I get 5 minutes to call my own during daylight hours, so it's just not going to happen. So unless someone can tow it (or turn up with a spare barrel and fix it where it is) then I don't really have any choice.

There is no power steering. It has electric windows (front & rear). I'll have to check the mileage, but I think it is about 155k.
I'll PM my postcode. |
