He's already found a couple of,faults.
He's bought new, glow plugs and one of the air suspension isn't,working properly. Apart from that he.loves it. I say,Welcome to the club.

Yeah I've found one or two faults too.. If I want this one through an MOT this summer I'll cross the line, of having spent more than it's worth, never a good feeling.. Current goal is to get brakes that work. But can't do that until I've fixed the brakes on the van... again.. one thing can be said for allroads, they're better than fkn ivecos!

Nearly bought one for SWMBO but bought a Grand Cherokee instead.
The potential pitfalls of camshaft failure, suspension airbag and pump failure, and fuel pump (£1100 new!!!!) just weren't palatable. In fairness, the camshaft issue depends on year and engine code, and also if the car was on 'long-life' service intervals; those that fit those criteria are the ones that appear to have had the big failures. Hope everything goes well for him, and despite the above I still have a desire for one. |

I bought one that was already broken good tip that, buy one that's broken, then at least you know it's broken.
Compressor - done, arnott air bags on the front - done, camshafts.. it's a petrol so don't think they have the same problems, but not sure on that! Just down to all the other problems old cars have now.. Tell him to watch the rear wash wipe! Mine had burst, leaked into the spare wheel well every time it was used, then the compressor sucked all the water into the suspension system, as the air intake is in there. Hence boogered compressor. Caused by an owner that had clearly never lifted the floor panel in the boot. Full dealer history... They obviously didn't lift the boot floor either as the water was about six inches deep! |

That's a good idea; buy one that's broke, then fix it. Like it 👍

Thanks.
I'll pass that on about the, rear wash wipe.It might have already, been fixed? He said there's some of the tailgate panel, missing.Maybe they cut it to gain access?
He started on the glowplug change, today. He got to the third and came across a problem. The third glow plug unscrewed abit then, just spun around?? It seems tobe a common problem?(Accoring to the web)The top of the plug breaks of and leaves most of it in the head. I relayed the bad news to him and he told me he finally got it out.Turn and pull,at same time.It came out but, half the thread was chewed up. He went to put the new one in and it wouldn't screw in.The bottom half of the thread had, come away from the inside of the head.(Maybe, over tightening?) In the end he had the bright idea of,drilling out the damaged thread. Then the new one, screwed in. He started the engine and he said it runs ok. Two things came to mind, where did the burr go and will there be enough thread left to cause a seal?I did pass my concerns onto him,but he's just glad it's running again. I'm sure I'll get, another phone call.
