Progress so far:
timing belt, water pump, idler replaced brake master cylinder replaced and system bled some more wiring issues resolved (broken wiring to alternator, headlight wiring as well as ECU and fuel system fuses replaced, fuel pump wiring sorted) firing order corrected on distributor immobiliser problems resolved new headlights sourced new battery fitted new boot struts fitted new oil filter and oil changed compression tested and is good to do next fuel system, clean and replace filters and pump, clean out accumulator and lines flush cooling system and refill (plain water first to flush better, anti freeze to follow) then it will be time to (ahem) "fire up the quattro" To do after that: clutch master/slave replace/bleed decision on wheels...Ronal, BBS recreation or chrome spinner wheel covers on winter steel wheels |

Great progress! Slave cylinder is an awful job by all accounts

Luckily i have the hands of a double jointed 12 year old and the strength of Geoff Capes.
(lying mode: off) Sigh-yes, not looking forward to that. Will get engine running first. Who knows, maybe i won't need to change the master or slave. (Hopeful mode: off) |

The slave isn't too bad if it's not seized into the gearbox. Just a bolt and hydraulic line to undo on the MB
The master cylinder is apparently the difficult one

It is and it will most likely need doing. |
