Breaking a good'un
Arrgh - Dilemmas, don't you just love' em!
I've got two Audi 80s at the moment. Both are Typ 82s so pretty rare. My 76 round headlight model is the one I always wanted and needs quite a bit of work to finish. My 77 is slightly less desireable but still a nicely sorted motor. Thing is, there is no point me trying to get two cars finished so I've been thinking about either getting rid of the 77 or breaking it for parts to help with the 76. It does seem too good to break though and with a bit of work would make a great car. On the other hand, there are some bits from that one which I would like to use in my 76. Has anyone been in a similar position? What would you suggest? Here are some pics - Remember, pics always make cars look better than they are, like TV makes people look fat! Fern Britton for example. 76: 77:

Drop the engine and wheels out of the 77 into the '76.
Keep the 76 for parts if nothing else but don't get rid! You'll only regret it and Kupfer Metallik looks superb when it's fully polished! |

Or sell one of them on, and use the cash to finish the other one to how you want it??

or....
which has the best body (sills, a pillar etc)? Keep that for best, the other, drop a 1,8T 20v into it and strip it out. If the parts you need are interior trim, you're sorted. Also you can lose external trim too. Track day car.... I wouldn't try to have two cars fulfilling the same requirement (i.e. show car), I would do different things with them so mentally you're making a difference. |

don't bother going RWD. Having seen Grant Motorsport Mk1 going round Combe last Saturday, light stripped out FWD cars are f**king quick...... These cars were never made in quattro form, so it would be hard to do IMHO.
KISS - Keep It Simple, Stoopid. Or just give it a dose of the lightening stick, and drop in 2 litre Audi 80 block with Golf GTI 16V Mk2 head for an easy 165bhp. Obviously need to convert it to fuel injection too... You wanna pick up them door handles sometime? I'm off for next 10 days. |

I have an article somewhere about a 1976 (I think) 80GT rally car.
Or just go 2 litre 3A bottom end, DZ head with a Weber. Simple and effective. |
