Auto box dead...AGAIN!
Well I got up early thinking I was going to have a productive day. Oh how wrong I was! Went over to the garage where the quattro is kept, got it out and went to reverse the GT back in the garage to take its place. Drive and reverse seemed to be slipping whilst maneuvering which ended up in no drive at all and the car with its arse half in the garage. Managed to get it to move eventually after cycling through the gears about three million times...err not quite! Phoned the automatic specialist who rebuilt it last time (about 65K ago) and he said it was due a rebuild and he wasn't surprised it has given up as the 3 speed only lasts about 60K.
F**king bollox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last time it cost £450 + VAT to rebuild, here we go again. I'm trying to decide whether it's actually worth rebuilding or not, or whether I should just go and buy another car?!!! |

Yes, 60K is terrible but I suppose it's old technology that was properly developed in the late 70s. Apparently the 3 speeds aren't very robust, resulting in worn out clutches etc.

Yep, agree, stop pansying about with all these 'fluid' couplings and general 'hemorrhoid pampering' and go get a snotty, heavy duty manual box...

Was going to buy another car but have decided to get the box rebuilt. Another £530 gone but hey...I'll have a working car to drive to work and back then!

Hopefully getting the car back tomorrow. It's going to cost an extortionate £650 + VAT as they have had to completely rebuilt it. Everything was buggered and there were bits of metal in the oil apparently. Got a few minor bits to do for MOT then all sorted. Going to cost me the best part of a thousand quid to get it back on the road again! Bloody classic Audis, don't you just love em!
