Well I'll suggest and inverter, AC sub-circuit, and diodes and resistors in series, and the vibration of air is created by the half cycle that gets to the horn...

All

FYI horn repaired - thx for all suggestions - problem was a poor connection at one of the horn terminals.
Checks made in following order:

(i) fuse - the fuse is shared with the brake lights which work, so fuse discounted

(ii) connection on steering wheel - prized the horn push from the centre, removed spade connector & pressed against exposed end of steering column. This produced an audible relay click, suggesting a working circuit

(iii) pulled wires (spade connectors) from all four terminals on the horn (there are two horns each with two terminals), cleaned terminals, slid spade terminals back on & horn sounds again

Took all of 15 mins but I broke one of the horn push retainers on the steering wheel

If anyone has any B2 facelift horn push retainers, or a grotty B2 facelift steering wheel which could be for sale, pls PM me

These things are held on with little gold nuts, I've broken many in the past!

I got a few off eBay as replacements and it was just the retainers I purchased, I'll have a look and see if I can find the partnumber or seller I used.

Hope this helps, I've used them before and the service was good.

The part you want is the following number;

321419779A

There are a couple on eBay at the moment...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132117468129

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301204522148

I would try the main dealers though, they should be cheaper, it's a shared part with VW and they are usually cheaper than Audi, same part number.
