Ur- fuel sender or dash. Empty of fuel!
One is tinkering with the UR, which is sort of running, first turn of the key once the battery was up to snuff. After nearly two years idle.
Initially the dash refused to light up. But that sorted itself. But the fuel gauge has stubbornly refused to record anything other than E0 fuel. As in, it ain’t got none, Or so it thinks. It’s been topped up to about ½ tank, and briefly showed some 9gallons. But now, nada. Empty. Enough to get patty’s knickers in a twist. She does go on. But it did show something, for all of ten minutes. Before I start pulling the sender out, I’m wondering if there’s any tricks I can play on the car to get an idea of what it’s doing? I cant even find my packs of resistors to give some input to the cable. And maplin seems to have gone bust. I calibrated the dash gauge back in about 1995, and have not touched it since. My notes are not currently with the car, so they’re no help. I’m in the process of preparing a winter shutdown, before I head home. I’d normally just tinker with it, but don’t have the time to investigate as I normally would. I really need guided checks. The sort that take a few minutes. It may even be that the clots who messed the car up also messed up the sender and tank, as it most defiantly isn’t the original tank. Another reason to exercise caution about pulling the sender out.

I’m guessing just bad connections in the dash. I can get a reading, clearly not accurate, by grounding the ground line. So a high resistance joint looks a likely bet. Most likely the cluster multiplug. Further tinkering and diagnosis may have to wait until spring.
Next is the cooling fan, and rad switch…

I’m racking my brains trying to remember the full issue, but we had similar issues with the Ur as we put it back together again post restoration and I “think” there’s a connector or maybe earth? under the rear parcel shelf cover or back seats. Been disturbing stuff around there by chance?
I think the earth is in the boot on the inner wing.

The car got took apart a while back ‘cos the radiator was fubar, init. Busy me, I only just got to put it back together. Next to nil TLC, and now I is buggrin’ off ‘ome.
So, it’s no big surprise that it’s got some electrical gremlins. The real surprise being how few!
