Default Quattro/Cq/Coupe GT storage "bin" repair.

In the midst of sorting Quasi's myriad of problems, i found this one.

The rear storage "bins" as fitted to the above named models are made of plastic, secured to the trim panel via push through plastic standoffs and a clip pressed over the top.

Years of vibration, the occasional heavy handed removal etc can cause these standoffs to snap because theyre hollow, puny and they dont have a radius at their base where they meet the plastic.
Mine were as expected- hanging off.
After having a look at the way theyre made i formulated a plan to repair them.

Proceed as follows.
Aquire a tube of "Valco cininnatti" HV350. This is a very useful adhesive indeed and is way better than anything else youre likely to find.
Its a semi transparent, semi rigid glue that has extreme stretch resistance, being able to go to at least 600% that of silicone so its perfect for this job.
You can get it via demon tweeks.

Youll need a small steel rod ( welding wire) of 1.5mm diameter cut to approx length of the standoff.

A similarly sized drill bit.

Acetone/alcohol for degreasing and cleaning surfaces.

Usually the standoffs will drop out the back and be inside the rear sill area so recover them and observe the direction the retaining clip is fitted ( one way) and push the standoff thru it and off.

The storage bin itself will be left with a small hole where the standoff's "bore" used to be.
Use your drill bit to drill the hole deeper by about 2mm.
The plastic at this point is about 4.5mm deep so you have a small amount of leeway- go steady or youll go thru!
Degrease the area around the standoff and do the standoff itself.
Then apply a dab of your glue to the hole youve just drilled, dont worry about going mad with it, just make sure its well covered.
Then apply some more glue to the standoff where it got broken and slide the 12mm rod you cut earlier into it thru the glue so it drags it inside.
Now set it in place and using whats left of your welding wire, push the 12mm piece back into the plastic of the bin itself and into the hole so it locates and supports the standoff.
Leave it set overnight and the jobs done.
The standoffs will be extremely solid and unlikely to ever snap off again as theyre now internally supported and secured to the base material of the bin itself.

Have fun with this one, its a very easy fix indeed.

You never cease to amaze me. Your talent would be wasted in some organisation because there is no way they could pay you your worth.

Me? talented? nah!

Just common sense i think.
Half the hassle with these kinds of little jobs is just figuring out whats the best method for repair, the rest is just a bit of time, patience and persistance.
Being a handsome bastard also helps.... so thats me ruled out then!
