Default fuel pump and filtre

am restoring my 90 cd just just going too start stripping and painting floor and bits was looking at my fuel pump and filtre there rusty and looking rough going tidy it up would it matter if i did away with filtre

On in as much as it’ll allow any crud up to the metering head and block the fine gauze in that. Metering heads are very costly to get professionally overhauled, so I’d stick with a filter.

Those canisters come after the fuel pump, so do not protect the pump.
Also, the pre-filters get blocked as they are the first filter. This makes the pump work harder, get hotter, and melt the connector under the rear seat.
