B3 Coupe pads help

Hi all,

Getting a bit confused with front brake pads on my 1990 coupe 2.0e.

It had the Ate calipers and on the 7zap epc two different part numbers for pads and the image is slightly different for the ate pad. However on searching both part numbers go the same parts on aftermarket pads and all are listed as lucas/trw fit.

Am I missing something here??

The calipers had fitted the pad type that match theTRW epc image but they looked new before the car was laid up 14 years ago so not sure if they have ever been used. Rusted to buggery now not that I'd entertain using them at this point anyway!

I fitted ATE discs and pads to mine (albeit a B2 Coupe). I usually find the correct part numbers, then search eBay

If it’s been stood for 14 years, you may be better off changing the calipers anyway. Mine were starting to stick and generally rotten!

Oh I'm already on that! Everything in the photos will be refurbished or replaced..

So far I've got the calipers cleaned up ready for paint and new seals. Amazingly the pistons are perfect past the dust seals!

Just had a nosy on the ATE site. They list the rebuild parts for the ATE caliper but that's it.. They list the body itself for the Lucas type too. Only seem to list pads for Lucas/TRW which is a bit worrying but I know I can't be the only one with ATE calipers?!

The caliper looks great cleaned up!

I think these should fit your car with your calipers. Best to double check by cross referencing part numbers and engine code on 7Zap.

Try Brakes International in Rochdale - link to pads here for the 256 diameter discs (10 valve)

They do rebuild kits etc, and are usually a bit cheaper than Bigg Red, remember discs are priced singulary if comparing prices.

Their online catalog is really good as it contains disc and pad dimensions, so good for comparing with original old pads etc.

from what I can see, if you have the 256mm disc, the ate and lucas girling calipers both used the same pad

8A0 698 151 B

When they went to the 280mm disc after 1992, the ATE got dropped and everything was Lucas Girling

Thanks for all the responses. Checked official catalogues with every decent manufacturer and no one makes an "ate style" pad. The fact the different 7zap part numbers both reference back to the same aftermarket part number is making me think the Lucas style is the only option now. I've ordered up a set even though a voice in my head still keeps screaming at me it's wrong..

Interestingly the Rochdale brake pad place made mention of having limited stock of "old style pads without springs" giving a Feredo part number that doesn't seem to exist on google or with them anymore but no further info available. I'll report back when fitted.
