Quicker steering rack
Morning!
Is there any sort of later steering rack that fits a B3 that's quicker than the original and a straight swap?? Whilst it's part of the character of the car, there's a lot of steering input required for not a lot of response at the front end. I appreciate that there are other issues here (no rear ARB and it's still on winter tyres) |

I'll look at that in some more detail as between doing that and fitting the sport steering wheel I've already got stashed away, that'd be a big step forward. |

Aren't the sporty steering racks all fitted to cars with Central Hydraulics? (A Brake booster and steering all on same system?) The standard 90 doesnt come so equipped, only the 20v did, will this cause an issue?

That'll be servotronic I assume?
They were easily spotted due to the extra connector at the bottom |

not related to servotronic.
All 20v, V6 and S2 cars which came with the quicker racks used a hydraulic servo

there is a pipe that goes from the rack to the bomb which you would need to block off.

I think there was discussion like this long time ago... Or maybe subdiscussion in some project thread... The difference between short and long rack wasn't THAT big - it was something like 4 turns for long one and 3 1/2 for short, or 3 1/2 for long and 3 for short, or something like that. Looking at the catalogue, it seems that RHD short rack could be 896422065BX , as it was used by late S2 and also by RS2, and apparently could be found in various other models as well http://www.oemepc.com/tvn_result/search/tvn/896422065BX
So far I haven't heard about any V6 using anything but vacuum servo.. |
