Default Door Handles

Thought this might be of use to you chaps if you were in need of some new handles and were unsure about the quality of the aftermarket ones out there.
Ive a couple of broken ones on the 90 and 80 that are beyond saving. I thought id give this place a try on the bay, quite reasonably priced I thought, arrived fast too.

The original one on the rear door of the 80, had broken at the section of the handle that is screwed through the inside of the door.

I took the old one out and took a few pics. The weight is similar and apart from a few small burrs on the plastic from the moulding, (which were taken care of with Mr Stanley) they look as good as the original.
I did notice though that the bottom hole on the internal fixing section of the handle is not

threaded so could not be secured through the inside of the door. I hadnt got any taps handy so, slowly introduced the fixing screw with a bit of WD and hay presto, the screw cut a thread through the hole. The metal was soft enough to cut with ease and the screw was still perfectly serviceable afterwards.

Fitted the handle with the new sealing plates supplied, secured it with its two retaining screws and tested. The handle works perfectly, the button feels light to the pull. I have to say i did re use the crome strip from the original handle as the ones supplied looked a bit on the flimsy side, but that said, I dont think it looks too bad.....

Ive had a pair of fronts as well with two keys, from the same company and again the quality looks pretty good.

I had EXACTLY the same problem, and used EXACTLY the same Polish handles!

They are alright you know, and like you say it was easy enough to get the screw in once you had started it off.... I used the chrome insert they sent, and after a month or so it started to go rusty, so best stick with the old inserts.

Can you fit the rears handles on the front if you don't want a lock in your handle? My drivers door matches the ignition and boot but the passenger front door is different? I'm going to be replacing all my handles next month when I have the car repainted and so was gonna put my original drivers door lock in the new handle and then put a rear handle on the passenger front if possible as I don't want different keys for different doors/ignition etc?
