If thats the case how do you explain Cortina prices now? They were never aspirational !!

And in any case aspirations of little boys are not the same as grown men.I was once a teenager in a Ford. I used to ignore Audi until i drove one in 89 and abruptly dumped any idea i had about hankering after anything else. The Audi was simply the better car in all segment areas!!

Probably because they were family cars that have invoked good memories from childhood ?

^^^For sure, Fords were for the common working man and thus they were all too common........everyones Dad, uncle, granddad, friend, neighbour had one. Most memories were good and now some hanker after one

Audis' weren't as popular, simple. Definitely in a different league too!

Yep, most of us still love a ford from our past, i do and have fond memories for sure.

When it comes to the hard earned many if they knew how good Audi were back then would have bought, maybe not new, as they were expensive but at least second hand nearly new cars.

It's taken Audi all through the seventies through the eighties until the early 90's before Audi really started to take off here and for the public to finally wake up. It takes a long time of whisperings and natterings before the masses start to switch onto a new idea/product. Now that many people have grown up with dad driving an Audi the same will happen to the kids that have grown up with them. They'll be wanting an Audi and once they delve a bit deeper will be hankering after the older stuff that you and i own.
