Default Help please update

Evening all. I asked for help about a month ago regarding this problem.
The 84 Coupe gt 5s will start, will die unless i keep pumping the gas. Have changed the
dizzy cap, ht leads, plugs, by passed the fuel filter, just come in from changing the fuel pump.
I think i've exhausted the minor stuff. Can the carb be tested or do i bite the bullet and
get a Webber. I would like it to be ready for AITP. I never used to have gray hair.

Does it run normally, other than failing to idle correctly?
By pumping the gas, do you mean literally pushing the accelerator pedal up and down, or do you mean holding the pedal in a partial open position? It's important.

Is the carb clean? Worth inspecting, and maybe even removing, and cleaning if required.

Lets forget about pumping the peddle up and down.
That description leaves one bit unanswered-

If you start the engine, Will it idle if you keep steady, gentle pressure on the throttle (enough to just open the throttle a little bit?)

No the engine only keeps going by pumping up and down quickly.

So, to summarise a little-

The engine will start
It will run only if the throttle is repeatedly opened

It will stop if the throttle is opened and held open
it will stop if the throttle is held steady in any position?
