Default Decoding Chassis Number

Can anyone point me in the right direction enabling me to decode a LHD Audi 80 chassis number.

I'm wanting the date of manufacture so I can register the car here with the DVLA.

I've done a search and used one, but its says it was manufactured in 2012

Thanks
Stuart

Hi,
there must be a sticker as well in the car boot as in the service map.
If you post a photo of it we can tell you more.
Greetings

You'll only get the year from the chassis number

Will look something like this

WAU ZZZ 8G Z X A 123456

X denotes the model year

Thanks folks. I'll take a picture of the boot sticker tomorrow.

In the meantime the chassis number is;

WAUZZZ 81Z CA0 35058

Thanks

C indicates 1982 model year so built from Aug 1981- Jul 82

The problem is they started using the same letters again in chassis numbers in 2010

Thanks Mike, Much appreciated.

What form of service did you use to decode? if you don't mind me asking.

Cheers
Stuart

The model year designation was standardised across Europe in 1979. So ‘A’ signified all 1980 model cars (e.g. built after the summer break in 1979, yes all factories had a month off for summer!).

For all VAG products think of the Zs as space fillers. We have model type(81), model year(C), factory(A) and finally the unique vehicle chassis number.
